First Nations launched the Native Fundraisers Community of Practice based on the belief that change can only occur when Native people, Native-controlled nonprofit organizations, and tribal nations have the capacity to generate financial assets and implement solutions resulting in more equitable and impactful funding to ensure the economic, spiritual, and cultural well-being of Native communities, families, and children.
Every year since 2019, First Nations has brought together 15 to 20 leaders of Native nonprofits and tribal programs in a six-month Community of Practice to foster peer learning and sharing to enhance confidence in grant writing and fundraising – with a particular focus on strengths-based storytelling and communications.
With support from the American Express Foundation, Vanguard Charitable Endowment Program, San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, MacArthur Foundation, Target Foundation, AMB Foundation, and Fidelity Charitable Catalyst Fund, this year we convened Cohort 5 of the Community of Practice, bringing together 13 participants in three virtual and one in-person gatherings.
